Pengfei Liu

Pengfei Liu (born on June 17, 1992) is an Associate Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). His primary research areas include natural language processing, large model training, alignment, and evaluation. Based on his research accomplishments, he \textbf{co-founded} a startup with CMU Professor Graham Neubig, which was subsequently acquired by Baobab. He serves as the Director of the Generative AI Research Group (GAIR) at SJTU, and the mission is to create cutting-edge generative AI technologies that are intelligent, ethical, transparent, and accountable, aligned with human values and serving the common good. He has published over 100 academic papers in natural language processing and large model-related fields, accumulating more than 15,000 Google Scholar citations (24 papers with over 100 citations each). He ranks first in CSRanking for natural language processing at SJTU. Prof. Liu has received the Best Demo Paper Award and Outstanding Demo Paper Award at ACL, the top conference in natural language processing, for two consecutive years. Recipient of awards such as the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation from the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation from the Shanghai Computer Society, Baidu Scholarship, and Microsoft Scholar.
